Help, Hope, & Healing
Victory Academy has been a long-standing source of hope and help for parents of troubled teens. Some teens are caught up in patterns of anger, disrespect, deceit, laziness, and self-centeredness. Others, hurt by poor relationships in the home act out rebelliously, rejecting the authority of their parents to become peer-dominated. Our staff is sacrificially committed to helping these young men and their parents reconcile in their relationships and grow in their understanding and submission to God’s authority.
Heart Level Change
Our program is set up to quickly get past behavior modification and focus on heart level change. We know that until real heart change takes place, behavior modification will only be short-term. This real, lasting heart change is sought through four basic growth areas that are evaluated and discussed with the staff, parents, pastor, and boy each month:
- Spiritual Growth—Because the central issue is the inner man, our first goal is to see the boy choose to live with a biblical understanding of himself and God.
- Relational Growth—Throughout the daily program there is much interaction with staff who talk about, counsel, and teach biblical truths about relationships with parents, other authorities, and peers.
- Character Growth—The staff provide patient, caring instruction and model responsibility, honor, obedience, and integrity to help the young men develop strong, honorable character.
- Academic Growth—Most boys come to us with academic difficulties that have resulted in them being behind and hopeless. Our academy combines individualized instruction with a traditional classroom setting to encourage and hold the students accountable for their work. This provides the student with a new vision for what he can accomplish, and reestablishes hope in his academic future.
Positive & Purposed
Our program has two basic elements that provide opportunities for each boy to be challenged, stretched, and grown in his “inner man.” Those two elements are a positive environment, and purposed activities. Located in the woods of rural northeastern Wisconsin, Victory Academy is a place where a boy can have a time of separation from negative influences and become saturated with the Word of God. Psalm 119:9 says that a boy must learn to obey God’s Word to live a godly life. We begin and end each day with reflection on some aspect of God’s Word. We have an evening family worship time after dinner. In the academy throughout the week there is a Bible class and chapel time. Perhaps the most important time we teach about God is when we have the opportunity to help a young man work through some problem he is having with another boy, the staff, his parents or with sin. Victory is also a place where strong relationships with godly staff are developed. Those relationships are the platform for influencing them for God.
Because we are working toward specific, evaluated goals for each boy, our days are filled with purposed activities that teach life skills. Basically, we play hard in our physical education classes, sports, and wilderness activities. The boys learn that hard work is rewarding as we harvest, cut and stack firewood; maintain the buildings and property with construction and landscaping projects; and take care of daily chores. The boys learn to help others by being involved in community projects and local church ministries. Each boy also has the opportunity to take a missions trip to help a missionary or organization teach people about God. Learn more about Academy Life.
A Family Focused Ministry
Victory Academy for Boys is a part of Victory Family Ministries. We strive that our academy might help young men grow, achieve, and prosper in life. Our greater purpose goes beyond just the boy, and encompasses each member of the family. Our goals are that each family member would grow in his knowledge of God and understanding of how to apply His Word to life. We believe that a part of long-term change in the heart of a boy is found in strengthening the overall dynamics of the home. We believe that God teaches this in Deuteronomy 6 when He tells parents to be careful to obey and honor God as a testimony to their children that God is real. Our parent program is set up to help parents become a stronger influence for God in the lives of their teens.
